Question

We will study three sine waves and a signal which is composed of all of them: where Ai is the amplitude, fi is the sampling frequency and i, is the phase for component i = 1,2,3. Here, we are only concerned with the frequencies of the sine waves so we let the amplitudes be Ai = 1 and phases be i = 0. The signal x(t) is continuous and we .sample it using f8 = 1/Ts sampling frequency, so that we haw, for each component: Let the sampling frequency be f8 = 8000 Hz and let f1 = 300 Hz, f2 = 730 Hz log f3 = 1500 Hz. Examine the signals for n {-400,....,400} Draw .x1[n], x2 [n] using stem. Use subplot and compare the components. Does the frequency increase?

Explanation / Answer

Matlab commands fs = 8000;f1=300;f2 =730;f3 = 1500; n=-400:1:400 // taking for 100 points x1 = sin(2*pi*f1/fs*n); x2 = sin(2*pi*f2/fs*n); x3 = sin(2*pi*f3/fs*n); subplot(3,1,1); stem(n,x1); subplot(3,1,2); stem(n,x2); subplot(3,1,3); stem(n,x3); the frequency will decrease if fs is not an exact multiple of fi hence in all the above cases frequency decreases
