Which types of macromolecules (protein, carbohydrate, lipid, nucleic acid) contribute significanty to the calories found in each of these 2 items? 3) For each ingredient, follow the food through the digestive tract. Which enzymes are needed to digest the molecules found in each item and where do these enzymes act? Use the handout about digestive enzymes to help you. 4) Go to Burger King's website https:/www.bk.com/pdis/nutrition. df and figure out how many calories your Whopper contains. Use the total calories and the number of grams of fat to calculate the percentage of calories from fat found in your Whopper.Explanation / Answer
1.I would like to eat bacon cheese burger and cheese burger
2. 2 whooper ingredients would be :
3.Some of lipids that are mostly fats undergo digestion in the mouth when the lingual lipase it is converted to diglycerides and but the fianl and most of the digestion occurs in the small intestine. In presence of fat in the small intestine, hormones are produced i.e cholecystokinin that stimulate the release of bile from the liver that is then released into gall bladder.Bile helps to emulsify fat globules into small droplets so that they can be acted upon pancreatic lipase and broken down into fats into fatty acids and glycerol. Fatty acids enter the lacteals which are lymphatic vessels of small intestione and then via absorption in small intestine and the enter blood circulation.
The proteins is acted upon by Pepsin which is an active protein-digesting enzyme present in the stomach. Pepsin functions to acts on protein molecules and breaks the peptide bonds that hols the amnioacids in the protein molecule together resulting in foramtion of polypeptides.Next, the digestion of protein occurs in the small intestine by the action of pancreatic enzymes such as trypsin, chymotrypsin, and carboxypeptidase that break down/hydrolyse the polypeptides into smaller peptides and then aminoacids. The aminoacids are then absorbed through the lining of the small intestine into the blood.
4.
percentage of calories from fat = (calories from fat /total calories )* 100
Bacon cheeseburger :
Total calories :300
Total fat = 15g
Total calories from fat = 15* 9 = 135 calories ( 1 g fat = 9 calories)
% fat = (135 / 300 )* 100 = 45%
Cheese burger : Total calories :270
Total fat = 12g
Total calories from fat = 12*9 = 108 calories (1g Fat provides 9 calories )
% fat = (108/270) * 100 = 40%
