Question
a) At T=20 C , how long must an open organ pipe be to have a fundamental frequency of 268 ? for this I got L= 0.640 m b) If this pipe is filled with helium, what is its fundamental frequency? I have gotten close according to the program (768.82 and 768.75) but it is saying im off in my units or rounding (there are no rounding specs). Really need help finding the EXACT answer. Thanks!Explanation / Answer
L = 1.05 m fn = 268 Hz f(n+1) = 446 Hz Speed of the sound ? fundamental frequency? fn = ( 2n + 1 ) v/4L ----> n =0,1 , 2 , 3, .... f(n+1) = 446 Hz = (2(n+1) +1) v/2L 446 = (2n + 3)*v/4L 268 = (2n + 1)*v/4L ------------------------------- : 446/268 = 2n + 3/2n + 1 446(2n+1) = 268(2n+3) 892n + 446 = 536n + 804 (892 -536)n = 804 -446 n = 1.0056 ----> n= 1 f1 = (2*1 + !) * v/(4*1.05) 268 =3v/4.2 v = 268 * 4.2/3 = 375.2 m/s fo : f1 : f2 : .... = 1 : 3 : 5 fundamental frequency : fo = 1/3 *268 = 89.33 Hz
