Read: "Global Metabolic Impacts Of Recent Climate Warming" -----> Https://www.nature.com/articles/nature09407...

1. frame the article in an appropriate context,

2. identify the main question or hypothesis in the article,

3. explain the methods at a level that provides a concrete picture of what the authors spent their time doing, and also gives a sense of where the data come from, or what the variables are.

4. explain the major finding in a way that connects with the main question or hypothesis, and,

5. identify the contribution that this article makes to the scientific context in which it is embedded.

Explanation / Answer

1. The article talks about the effect which global warming has on geographical ranges, seasonal phenology, community interactions, genetics and extinctions of species.

2. The article hypothesises that the effect of global warming is different with respect to increase in the metabolic rates of the organisms present in the tropics, the temperate and the arctics.

3. The author try to determine impact of climate warming on metabolic rate at global level, the quantification which has never been done before and talks about nonlinear effects of temperature on metabolism in the latitudinal zones.

4. The shift in  tropical ectotherms is less pronounced in tropical as compared to temperate zone, which is in turn is less than artics.

5. The paper throws light on the effect of global warming and how the plants, animals and human respond to it on the basis of change in their metabolic rate.
