Question
2. If only three protons are required to power the F0F1 ATP synthase to produce one molecule of ATP, explain why does the textbook say that four protons are required for the synthesis of one molecule of ATP? Explain how dinitrophenol functions as a chemical uncoupler of the electron transport chain and oxidative phosphorylation. Discuss how it can be used as a drug for weight loss. How cytosolic NADH + H+ contribute to the ATP production ? (1.5+1.5+2 = 5 marks)

please answer only question no.2.
Explanation / Answer
It is a proton ionophore act as inhibitior of ATP sumynthase enzyme.
Because it simultaneously releases Protons across inner mitochondrial membranes and this thing leads to reduction in proton gradient. So, ATP synthesis is reduced.
