Gonzalo 3. Queen Victorias third child, Alice, passed hemophilia to the German and Russian imperial families (see Figure 4, next page) Of Alice's six children, three were afflicted with hemophilia. At the age of three, her son Frederick bled for three agonizing days JC Juan Carlos of SpainExplanation / Answer
Hempphilia is a sex linked recessive disorder which is transferred through X chromosome.
a. Here Beatrice is a carrier of hemophilia as she has one X chromosome causing disease while the other is normal. But she married Henry who is normal. Looking at their children we know the gene has been transferred to the girl Eugenie, Leopold and Maurice. Since the boys received the Y chromosome from father and the affected chromosome from their mother they have the disease and they can transfer the genes to their daughters and make them carriers. Their sons will not receive the hemophilic gene as they receive Y chromosome from father. The girl Eugenie can transfer the gene to her children and make them diseased especially boy and carrier girl.
b. Juan Carlos father was normal and did'nt have the disease and he has married a normal woman. So there is no chance of Juan getting hemophilia.
