Explanation / Answer

The average charge is [(-2) + (1.5)]/2 = -0.25C, so this must be tthe final charge on each object when their charges are equal.

(-0.25) - (-2) = 1.75C must be added to the plate.
Its final change is then -2 + 1.75 = -0.25C

So 1.75C must be removed from the rod
Its final charge 1.5 - 1.75 = -0.25C
______________________________
Adding 1.75C to the plate is the same as removing -1.75C.

Since electrons are negative we need to transfer some (N) electrons from the plate to the rod (an amount with charge = -1.75C)

The charge on N electrons is -Ne = -N(1.6x10^-19) C

-1.75x10^-6 = -N(1.6x10^-19)
N = 1.75x10^-6 / (1.6x10^-19)
. . = 1.09x10^13 electrons
