Question

1/3 points ! Previous Answers SeCP111.P.045.MI My Notes O Ask Your Teacher For the triangle shown in the figure below what are each of the following? (Let y 36.0 m and r 39.0 m. Assume the triangle is a right triangle.) (a) the length of the unknown side x 15 (b) the tangent of Apply the expressions for tangent of a base angle in a right triangle as a ratio of the sides of the triangle (c) the sin of Apply the expressions for the sine of a base angle in a right triangle as a ratio of the sides of the triangle.

Explanation / Answer

a)

Use Pythagoras theorem:

x^2 + y^2 = r^2

x^2 + 36.0^2 = 39.0^2

x^2 = 225

x = 15.0 m

Answer: 15.0 m

b)

tan thetha = y/x

= 36.0 / 15.0

= 12/5

Answer: 12/5

c)

sin psi = x/r

= 15.0/39.0

= 5.0/13.0

Answer: 5/13
