Question
34. A bottle opener is an example of a simple machine. When you pull up on the opener, the opener pulls up on the bottle cap. Use the illustrations to answer the questions below. (A) In terms of what you have learned about machines, explain how the bottle cap opener works. A battle spener io o secondl closs lever, ih it's fcm bein at one end and its effort on Ehe other end. The loed is in botween (B) Explain why the bottle cap opener does not violate the law of conservation of energy hen the cap is bent by the opener,a srall sean cat is peoduced 35. A person jumps from his front step to the ground. If the person bends his knees, the jump doesn't hurt at all - if he doesn't bend his knees, however, he finds the jump very painful! (Don't try this yourself!) Given what you have learned about momentum, explain why this is the case.Explanation / Answer
34. A) A bottle opener acts a lever with a fulcrum on a point on the bottle cap about which it pivot. it is easy to remove cap using lever as large torque can be applied using small force if enough lever length is provided,
B.) in order to remove a bottle cap we need a large force . but if we use a bottle opener which acts as a lever , a small force can be used to open the cap. if we apply a small force at the end of lever with a large angle , a large force is acted on the bootle cap with a small angle . thus energy is conserved in bottle openers. F1L1=F2L2 where L1 ,L2 are length of lever about fulcrum
35)impulse is the change in the momentum. when jump from the first step to ground there is a change in momentum before and after reach the ground . therefore impulse acts on you as a force exerted by the ground on you. impulse depends on the change in velocity and time period of impulse. So if you bend your knees you are not coming to rest immediately as your knees are in motion therby decresing the change in momentum and also time period of impulse by slowly coming to rest but not suddenly.
