(3 points) The mouse, in fact, only first sees the kestrel when it is at the mid point of the dive 10m above the ground. (c) Based only on your intuition (and not on any calculation), estimate how far the mouse needs to be from shelter to survive now. (1 point) (d) Calculate how far the mouse needs to be from shelter to survive in the new situation. (3 points)

(A) yf - yi = v0 t + ay t^2 / 2

0 - 20 = 0 - 9.8 t^2 / 2

t = 2.02 s

(B) v = 10 km/h = 10x 1000 m / 3600 s = 2.78 m/s

d = v t = 2.78 x 2.02 = 5.61 m

(C) second half takes less time.

(d) time to drop first half,

0 - 10 = 0 - 9.8 t^2 /2

t = 1.43 s

So time that mouse have to run = 2.02 - 1.43 = 0.591 s
