Given,
a = 2.3 m/s^2 ; v = 23 m/s ; a' = -1.1 m/s^2
a)We know from eqn of motion
v = u + at
t = (v - u)/a
while it accelerates
t = (23 - 0)/2.3 = 10 s
while it slows down
t' = (0 - 23)/-1.1 = 20.9 s
T = t + t' = 10 + 20.9 = 30.9 s
Hence, T = 30.9 s
b)We know that
v^2 = u^2 + 2 a S
S = (v^2 - u^2)/2a
while accelerating
S = (23^2 - 0^2)/2 x 2.3 = 115 m
while slowing down
S' = (0^2 - 23^2)/2 x-1.1 = 240.5 m
D = S + S' = 115 + 240.5 = 355.5 m
Hence, D = 355.5 m
