Question

A two-way switch connects two conductors in either of its two positions. Two such switches are sometimes used in a household lighting circuit in a way that allows lights to be switched on or off from two locations. Design a circuit of this type.

If either switch at the bottom of the circuit is flipped, the circuit will be complete, powering the switch. If either switch is hit at that point, the bulb(light) stops receiving power.

My concern is, I would have never gotten this without seeking academic assistance from a 3rd party specializing in Electrical Engineering as opposed to just relying on information reflecting the typical Physics agenda.

What, I'm asking is...how would a Physics Student (not an Electrical Engineering Student) have come to any type of valid conclusion? When it came to Switches, all I could tell you is that "when a switch is open, its resistance can be considered as infinite. When it is closed, electrical energy flows through the switch with neglible resistance."

Explanation / Answer

according to Ohm's law, V=I*R

here,

when the switch is open ,

the current through circuit becomes zero

hence, resistance should be infinte

and

when the switch is closed ,

then, the current through circuit becomes non-zero

hence, there should be negligible resistance connect through circuit
