Question
Brainstorm with your group members and make a list of possible experiments whose outcome can be predicted based on the hypothesis. Choose the two experiments that are the most appropriate. Perform each of the two experiments, following the appropriate steps for a testing experiment. Use the hypothesis that you devised and tested to predict which force is larger in each of the following situations: 1. A car is traveling down a highway just barely obeying the speed limit when a mosquito smashes into its windshield. The force the mosquito exerts on the windshield, or the force the windshield exerts on the mosquito. 2. A doctor taps your knee with a Taylor hammer to examine your reflexes. The force the hammer exerts on your knee, or the force your knee exerts on the hammer. Reconcile your answers with your observations of these phenomena from your own personal experience. Are the predictions consistent with your observations? Explain.Explanation / Answer
All phenomena in nature obeys Newton's third law, according to which every action has equal and opposite reaction and action and reaction appear in pairs and acts on two different bodies.
1. Thus according to this hypothesis the force which the windshield applies on the mosquito (action), the mosquito will apply an equal force (reaction).
2. Similarly in this case also, the force which the hammer apply on the knee(action), the will exert an equal force(reaction) on the hammer.
