Question
This next set of questions we look at the top fuel dragster. Check out this video so you know what sport we are talking about. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v-W9L3blIEb m4 In the video it showed the dragster went from rest (speed of 0 mph) to 265 mph in 4.38 seconds. First, convert the 265 mph to meters/seconds. 118.4 QUESTION 14 Now, let's calculate the acceleration of the dragster. Remember, acceleration is the change in speed (previous answer 0) divided by the change in time-4.38 seconds. 27 QUESTION 15 A typical top fuel dragster has a mass of 900 kg. What is the force applied to the dragster by the static friction of the strip that pushes it down the road? F ma 24300 QUESTION 16 I did a quick calculation and determined the distance the dragster went during this acceleration was 250 m. What was the work done by the static frictional force to push the dragster that far? I put my answer in scientific notation. But you don't have to. 6.07E6 QUESTION 17 Staying with the dragster problem...two more... If the dragster did the amount of work you calculated in the previous problem in 4.38 seconds, how much power was generated in Watts? 1386986.30Explanation / Answer
W = Fd
= 24300 x 250
= 6,075,000 J
You are getting it wrong probably because you need to enter a negative sign as well because friction force acts in direction opposite to that of motion.
So, W = -6,075,000 J
