Question
Use the data provided in the table to calculate the percent frequency of the +/+ genotype in A. gambiae over time (from pre-2006 to post-2006). Note that “frequency” refers to the proportional representation of an allele or genotype in a population.
Indicate the percent frequency of the +/+ genotype in A. gambiae during the periods specified. For help with the calculations, see Hint 1
Observed numbers of mosquitoes by kdr genotype +/++Irrlr A. gambiae Pre-2006 2006 Post-2006 3 8 3 2 8 3 57 Hybrids 2006 10 A. coluzzii Pre-2006 2006 Post-2006 226 70 79 0 127 94Explanation / Answer
Frequency of A. gambiae +/+. The frequency of a particular genotype can be either determined by Hardy Weinberg equation ( if applicable) or by calculating the percent proportion of a particular type in total population. This is obtained by dividing individual number by total size of the population. e. g In 2006 the number of +/+ type in total population is 3 and the size of total population is 10, therefore percent frequency of +/+ type is 3/10*100=30%
Pre-2006 =30%
2006=34.8%
Post-2006=4.8%
