Question

The graphs at the right show motion data for a race between a dragster and a jet car. The dotted vertical line marks the time when the winner crosses the finish line. Answer the next 5 questions. 4. . Who wins the race? Time a. The dragster b. The jet car. c. It's a tie. 5. Who has the fastest instantaneous speed at the moment the race Is won? a. The dragster. b. The jet car. a. The dragster. b. The jet car. c. It's a tie. a. The dragster. b. The jet car. c. Neither. d. Both. a. The dragster. c. It's a tie. 6. ? Who has the fastest average speed at the moment the race is won? -L- . Which car moves with constant acceleration? 8. Who covers more ground in the same amount of time? ? Time 81-jetcar b. The jet car. c. It's a tie. Time 9. ? Alan Shepard struck a golf ball while on the moon. Explanation / Answer

4) It’s tie

All graphs shows that both vehicles come to the finish line at the same time. Hence it’s tie.

5) The jet car

From velocity-time graph it is clear that at the finish point jet car has more instantaneous velocity than dragster.

6) The jet car

Vave = (Vf-Vi)/2

From velocity-time graph , Vf for jet car is more than Vf for dragster. Both have same value of vi. Hence Vave will be more for jet car.

7) Neither

From acceleration-time graph it is clear that no vehicle has constant acceleration. Both accelerations are variable.

8) It’s tie

Distance-time graph shows that dragster travelled more distance than jet car.
