Using conservation of energy

Work done by ground to stop the penny = Potential energy of the penny at the Top of balcony initially

W = (0.115) (9.8) (40)

Using conservation of energy

Kinetic energy just before touching the ground = Potential energy of the penny at the Top of balcony initially
