The d = 15-mm-diameter solid rod shown passes through a O = 25-mm-diameter hole in the support plate. When a load p is applied to the rod, the rod head resets on the support plate. The support plate has a thickness of b = 12mm. The rod head has a diameter of a = 30mm, and the head has a thickness of t = 10mm. If the normal stress produced in the rod by load p is 225MPa, determine the bearing stress acting between the support plate and the rod head. The average shear stress produced in the rod head the punching sheer stress produced in the support plate by the rod head

Explanation / Answer

bearing stress in the head = ( 225 * pi * 15^2) /( pi* 30^2)

                                        =56.25 mpa

shear stress = ( 225 * pi * 15^2) / ( PI * 30^2 - 25 ^2 )

= 184.09   if average stress then it will be halved

punching shear stress = 184.09
