Question

Name 10. List two differences between plant and animal cells that you saw by observing the cheek cells and Elodea cells. (1 points) 11. List two similarities between the cheek cells and the Elodea cells. (1 points) 12. During this course we will use both bacteria and yeast as models. Based on your observation of the yeast slides, slides of other organisms and EM data you have observed determine what type of cells yeast are. Describe below what observations were used in your decision. Write at least a paragraph. (3 points)

Explanation / Answer

Elodia is a plant cell whereas cheek cell is an animal cell.

10. Two difference between Elodia and cheek cells are

1. Elodia cell is having cell wall whereas cheek cell is not having the cell wall.

2. Elodia cell is having vacuole whereas cheek cell is not having the vacuole.

11. Two similarity between Elodia and cheek cells are

1. Both have nucleus in their cells.

2. Both the elodia and cheek cells have the cell membrane.

12. Based on the observation, yeast is a neither kept in a plant cell category nor in a plant cell category. Their size is much smaller then both of Elodia and cheek cells. Yeast is having one cell but both plant and animal are multicellular. Yeast is found to have a cell wall outside the cell membrane but is not made up of cellulose as found in the plant cell. They do not contain the choloroplast. So, it is neither be called as animal cell nor as plant cell.
