2) Each of the solid circular disk wheels has a mass of 2 kg, and the inner solid cylinder has a mass of 3 kg. The disks and cylinder are mounted on the small central shaft so that each can rotate independently of the other with negligible friction in the bearings. Calculate the acceleration of the center of the wheels when the 20-N force is applied as shown. The coefficients of friction between the wheels and the horizontal surface are mu(k) = 0.30 and mu (s) = 0.40.

2)

I = 2*(1/2*2*0.15^2) + 1/2*3**0.075^2

I = 0.0534375 kg-m^2

F*0.15 + 20*0.075 = I*alpha

F*0.15 + 20*0.075 = 0.0534375*(a/0.15)............(1)

ma = 20 + F

(2+2+3)*a = 20 + F

So, F = 7a - 20

Putting it in (1)....(7a-20)*0.15 + 20*0.075 = 0.0534375*(a/0.15)

Solving, a = 2.16 m/s^2
