Given a planetary gear train, with ring, sun, planet, and arm, where teeth numbers are shown in the figure. First find the gear train value that is the ring speed with respect to the sun speed, call it e. Then consider the mechanism is used in the automatic transmission of a car. Ring, sun and arm are sequentially fixed (in some order). When something is "fixed", this sets the overall gear ratio, where the input is another of those elements and the output is the remaining element. Fill in the table for each situation. Put an equation in terms of e. Give the numerical value. Then Identify in the Gear column which is "Low (1st)", "Middle (2nd)", and "High (3rd)" gear. (Consider that there is a reversing idler handy if necessary.) Show work.
