I have attached a picture, however it always ends up very large, so I apologize. The same problem can be found at

There it is problem 4.119 on page 12 of 25 in the pdf.
The exam I took asked for only the tension of cable AH and the reaction at D. I need some serious help here, could someone please explain everything that is going on as if I were the dunski that I am. I used the moment about an Axis to find the tension in AH. However my professor told me I should have used the moment about points, which would have allowed me to find both the tension and the reaction at D with out having to do more work. I am not sure how to do this. Can someone please explain how to do this, and why you are doing each step? I would really appreciate any help I can get!
Explanation / Answer
If you used the moment about an Axis, you will only have one equation. So if you take a moment about the x-axis, you are able to obtain the tension in AH. However, you still need to use a moment about a point to obtain the reactions at the support.
Since you only need to determine the tension in AH and the reaction at D, you just need to use the moment about point C to obtain the tension in AH and reaction at D, as shown in the solution.
