Shell moulding casting:
In this mould is made like shell I.e the thin or hallow mould sothat weight of the mould is less and handling of mould become easier.
lower weight and hallow products done
Applications: cylinders, cylinder head of ic engine, automobile transmission parts,cast tooth bevel gears,gear blanks, refrigeration valve parts,small crack parts,track rollers for crawler tractor.
Ceramic mould casting:
In shell moulding in place of phenolic resin if ceramic slurry is used as a mould material then it is called as ceramic moulding.
So applications for shell moulding and ceramic moulding are almost same.
3.INVESTMENT CASTING:
Here wax is used as the pattern material.cement concrete will be used as a mould material.
We get surface finish,complex shape of pattern can be made easily.
Applications:
Jewellery,surgical instruments,vanes blades for gas turbines,shuttle eyes for weaving,SS valve bodies,bolts and triggers from fire arms.
DIE CASTING:
In this casting mainly mould made by metal.So it is called die casting.
Commonly used metals for making moulds are die steel,tool steel, tungsten carbide.
Die casting mainly two types
A)gravity die casting
B) pressure die casting
GRAVITY DIE CASTING:
If molten metal is flowing into cavity due to gravity.
It is used for simple shapes
Applications: IC engine piston made by using Al alloy
PRESSURE DIE CASTING:
If the flow molten metal into the casting cavity is due to external pressure is called pressure die casting.
APPLICATIONS:IC Engine carburetor by Al alloy
CENTRIFUGAL CASTING PROCESS:
Due to metal moulds used,this process produces a fine grained casting with superior mechanical properties.
Cost of die is very very high

SLUSH CASTING PROCESS:
It is a open casting process in which the liquid of molten metal is poured into the casting cavity.allowing some time to solidification.

Expandable pattern : investment casting also called as expandable pattern.
SAND CASTING:
