Question

From Mechanical Vibration, 4th Ed. by Daniel J. Inman. I am trying to solve problem 1.117 and have used the solutions manual as a starter. However, I cannot seem to diagnose the source of the error in the screenshot of the MathCAD script below. By my account, it is no different from the MathCAD script provided in the solutions manual. Can someone provide suggestions?

* 1.117. Use numerical integration to solve the system of Example 1.73 with m-1361 kg, k = 2.688 × 105 N/m, c = 3.81 × 103 kg/s subject to the initial conditions x(0) 0 and o(0) 0.01 mm/s. Compare your result using numerical integration to just plotting the analytical solution (using the appropriate formula from Section 1.3) by plotting both on the same graph.

Explanation / Answer

You've not assigned value to x(i) only to x(i+1) that's the reason you're getting "This array index is invalid for this array" error.

Alternatively you can use "trace error" to let you show position of the error. And use rows[P] and cols [P] command to count the respective number of elements.

To solve this redefine the function x0=0 before you define the matrix.
