Question

2. The diploid eukaryotic organism Puncus bobcateri has 42 chromosomes (21 pairs of and homologous chromosomes). Two phenotypes are found for the cheering trait, boisterous hushed. The boisterous allele, B, is dominant so the bushed allele, b. Use this information to answer the following questions: (2.5 pts total, 0.25 pt each) a Jfow mary chromosomes are preset inside an individual cell during the folowing stages cell division? Stage G1 of the cell cycle Prophase of Misosis Prophase 1 of Meiosis 42 A2 2. 42 hromoiome Anaphase I of Meiosis SP,itS hair n Metaphasen of Meiosis 2.1 You have a boisterous bobcat whose mother was hushed. Determine the number of copies of the boisterous allele (B) in the cell of this bobcat during the following stages of cell division, assuming no crossing over. If there is more than one possibility, give all possible numbers of alleles. b. # of B alleles Stage GI of the cell cycle Prophase of Mitosis Anaphase of Mitosis Metaphase I of Meiosis Anaphase II of Meiosis

Explanation / Answer

During cell division, in S phase (a stage of interpahse) the DNA duplication occrus, so each chromosome has two chromatids.

In meiosis, both chromosome (Anaphase I) and chromatid segragtion (Anaphase II) occurs, where as in mitosis only chromatid segragation occurs.

So, the answers are

2
a)
G1 of the cell cycle - 42. (Becuase it is the first phase of interphase)
Prophase of mitosis - 42 (Even the replicaiton is over, but the both chromatids attaches at centromeres)
Prophase I of mitosis - 42 (Because the chromosome segreagation occurs at Anaphase I)
Anaphase I of meiosis - 42 (Because the chromosome segreagation occurs but all chromosomes will be in same cell)
Metaphase II of meiosis - 21 (Because chromosome segragation occurs during Anaphase I)

2
b)
Here, the dominant allele is Biosterous allele and recessive allele is hushed.
As the Biosterous allele is dominant, it can bexpress her character both in homo and heterozygous in conditions where as hushed is recessieve allele it can express her character only in homozygous in condition. As the mother is showing recessive phenotype but the offspring is showing dominant condition, which represents that the offspring is in heterozygous in condition.

So, it has one dominant and one recessieve allele.

G1 of the cell cycle = 1 B allele (another one b)
Prophase of mitosis = 2 B alleles (Because of chromosome replication)
Anaphase of mitosis = 2 B alleles (Because of all chromsomes are present in same cell)
Metaphase I of meiosis = 2 B alleles (Because of all chromsomes are present in same cell)
Anaphse II of meiosis = Two cells out of four each has one B allele.
