Question
The figure below shows a uniform magnetic field B pointing into the plane of the thin loop of wire in the plane of the page. If you pull at points 1 and 2 to deform the wire, which way will the induced current flow? Clockwise Counter-clockwise There is no induced current for static B Depends on area normal vector Not enough information Can I go home? The figure shows four different sets of insulated wires that cross each other at right angles without actually making electrical contact. The magnitude of the current is the same in all the wires, and the directions of current flow are as indicated. For which (if any) configuration will the magnetic field at the center of the square formed by the wires be equal to zero? A B C D The field is not equal to zero in any of these casesExplanation / Answer
Ans 1. since the magnetic field is directed into the paper therefore the current will flow in the wire due to this magnetic field is in clockwise direction ( from right hand skrew rule).
But if you deform the wire by pulling out it at points 1 and 2 then the total flux crossing the wire will change and this change in flux will induce an another current in the wire which is according to lenz law will be in opposite direction as the previous one. therefore the induced current will flow in the counter clock wise direction.
Ans 2. In the configuration C ..... the current in the opposite sides are in same direction therefore the mgnetic field produced by the opposite sides will cancles out and produces the zero net magnetic field at the center.
