1. Use the figure to the right (Fig. 16.7) to answer the following: honeysuckle hair density Describe how environmental variation (i.e. metal contamination) influences honevsuckle and sandwort phenotypic variation? (3 pts) 3.0 2.5 2.0 1.5 a. near medium 0.5 .0.0 field 77 field 79 courtyard b. For which type of plant does this figure provide evidence that natural selection may have altered the allele frequencies of the near-site or far-site plant populations? Support your answer with an explanation of the data. (3 pts) sandwort hair density 3 2 field '77 field '79 courtyardExplanation / Answer
a) From the graph it can be described that environmental variation affects the genes responsible for hair density. In case of Honeysuckle more plant have postive effect of near field having more metal contamination but very less plant respond towards low contamination. In case of sandwort metal contamination shows environmental gradient wich affects the genes gradiently responsible for hair density. intersting thing is that sandwort plant in courtyard is not responds towrds environmental variation whereas honeysuckle respond in corutyard also and this plant is very particular for their quatum level of contamination either high or low.
b) Honeysuckel plant shows the natural selection for near site plant because here for near site , genotype for hair density specifically fixed or evolve in the population favouring the genotypes responsible for near site contamination. In all the environmental field , hair density for near site if favored over medium or far site in honeysukel plant.
