Question

x.Hmellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0"> Question Details: Three capacitors are arranged as shown. C1 has a capacitance of 4 pF, C2has a capacitance of 8 pF, and C3has a capacitance of 12pF. Find the voltage drop across the entire arrangement if the voltage drop across C2is 227 V. a. 420 V

Explanation / Answer

ANS is b) we can replace C2 and C3 by Ceq=C2+C3=20 pF C=Q/V Q=Ceq*V=227*20 pV so the 20pF and C1 are in series....and so the same charge flowsthru them...ie Q flows thru them we can replace C1 and Ceq by C4=C1*Ceq/C1+Ceq =20/6 now again, C=Q/V               C4=Q/Vreq               Vreq=Q/C4=227*20/[20/6]                                 =227*6=1362 V so ans is 1400 V approx
