Question
In an automotive gas turbine the centrifugal compressor is driven at 40,000 rpm by an axial turbine. The compressor impeller is 180 mm dia. With radial vanes and there is no inlet swirll the slip factor is 0.9 and the isentropic efficiency is 80% If there is a 5% loss in total pressure in the intervening combustion system in where the air is heated to 950C, determine the static head efficiency required of the turbine if the total pressure of its exhaust is not to be less than 1.6 bar and the exhaust velcotiy is 300 m/s. Ambient condition are 300K and 1 bar, and for air take Cp=1.01 kj/Kg K and sp. Heat ratio = 1.4, formthe gases take Cp= 1.15 kJ/kgK and sp. Heat ratio = 1.33(Dont post just a result or the answers have been posted before)
Explanation / Answer
i cant say this is exact answer but i tried it The static efficiency is given by wQH/P H is the manometric head manometric(%)= 82% =>0.82=gH/(Vu) u=(pi)xDxN/60 u=377m/s =>H=9453.8m static efficiency=9810x1.415x10^(-3)x9453.8/(1.6x10^5) =0.82018 =82%
