If you go to the Mechanical Engineering book: EngineeringMechanics-Statics 11th ed., Chapert 2 Problem 46. If you go to what i put up below you can see a picture thatwas drawn. Why is F1x and F4x in thisequation come out negative. I thought that as long as the forcetravelled in the positive direction, that it would have a positiveanswer. Explanation / Answer

F1 and F4 are in oppositedirection of the given axis i.e. the F1 andF4 forces are acting in a negative x-direction tothe axis. Even if you make a negative x-dir positive,then F2 and F3 would be negative.
