In BIO1111, we are studying now about Organismic Diversity. How might the material about Evoluton have relevance to your own ife? oonnected Evolution to their lves: Here are some of the ways previous BIO1111 Many correctedknowing the material to their career goals, in heath professions One pastB01111 student noted mat conducted either horizontal was "considering going into health care" and transfer inbacteria helps explain how neceive beneficial genes themselves, which could which me understand hon bactera hamn us The student then elaborated on the dmerence between oganisms at transfer genes vertically and horizontally and the relation to disease mechanisms. Other students find Organismic Diversity very important to who they ae or to their values omepast BI01 student wrote that organismic diversity can something that I see eveny day and and at Temple This student noted: "This is ercourtr new and deerent types every day tom dnerent different places and see how they contribute to the environment. some students simply snd something in organismic Dwersity that connects to they are inteest in. One past B0111 student wrote: normaly think where cheese and other but it's inerasting know that when we think about its really fungl The student then elaborated on how interesting about the number of foods that we eat that are actually dneront types of ungi How might knowing about Organismic Diversity be interesting or important or usenu for you? Explanation / Answer

A species is an interbreeding group distinct from such other groups. The transition of racial differences to species differences is marked by a qualitative change accompanied by reproductive separation or isolation. Mechanisms preventing gene exchanges are termed isolating mechanisms. They include all kinds of factors and according to some, even the geographical and spatial isolation. Such geographically isolated populations called allopatric populations do not have the oppurtunity for gene exchage. Isolating mechanisms which prevent gene exchange between populations of the same locality are called sympatric populations. This eventually lead to organismal diversity.

Diversity at molecular level

Proteins can be called the chemical fingerprints of evolutionary history, because they bear amino acid sequences that have changed as a result of genetic changes. Organisms that bear large number of common amino acid sequences may therefore be considered to be more closely related than to those with greatly different amino acid sequences.
