I do not understand how the author got the equation for Ai (overall current gain). I understand that Io/Ii = (Io/Ie)(Ie/Ii), and since Io = Ic, Io/Ie = alpha. However this means that Ie/Ii = R4/(R4+Ri), and that I do not see.

I have had several problems with this text thus far (Jaeger), however I was using another text on google books reference, and this author has the same equation:

(it is a different problem, but still a single bjt common-base amp.)

Thanks in advance.
