Question
A device can be modeled using a voltage source in series with a resistance. That device is shown in Figure P2.1. Draw the circuit elements inside the device A set of resistors was connected to the terminals of the device, one at a time, and the voltage at the device terminals, v., was measured in each case. The results are shown in Table P2.1. Then, a 10[ Ohm ] resistor was connected to the terminals of the device. Using KVL and Ohm's law write an equation that includes VT and iT Find the power absorbed by this 10[ Ohm ] resistor, when it is connected to the device terminals. (PWA Problem 4 in Module 1)Explanation / Answer
assuming the device to be a voltage source of voltage V and internal resistance R,
when external ressitance =5 ohm,
current=-3.32/5=-0.664 A
so using KVL,
-3.32-0.664*R=v
similarly for external resistance=15 ohms
current=-24.2/15=-1.613A
so using KVL,
-24.2-1.613*R=v
solving for R and V,
R=22 ohm
v=-11.3 volt
so when 10 ohm is connected ,current be let i.
then i*10+i*22=-11.3
i=-0.353 A
power=10^2*0.353=35.3 W
