An object is placed = 1.00 m to the left of the lens as shown Object Lens Mirror 1.00 m 1.00 m (a) Locate the final image, formed by light that has gone through the lens twice. distance locationto the left of the lens cm (b) Determine the overall magnification of the image. (c) State whether the image is upright or inverted. upright O inverted Need Help? Read RExplanation / Answer
a)
From thin lens equation
1/f1 =1/p1 +1/i1
1/0.947 =1/1 +1/i1
i1=1786.8 cm
object distance of mirror
p2=100-1786.8=-1686.8 cm
from thin lens formula
-1/53.4 =-1/1686.8 +1/i2
i2=-55.15 cm
Now object distance
q3=100+55.15=155.15 cm
from thin lens formula
1/94.7 =1/155.15 +1/i3
i3=243.07 cm (to the left of lens)
b)
Magnification
M=M1M2M3 =(-1786.8/100)(-55.45/1686.8)(-243.07/155.15)
M=-0.92
c)
since M<0 ,image is inverted
