Explanation / Answer

Given,

R = 40 Ohm ; C = 222 uF ; V = 100

a)We know that

Z = sqrt (R^2 + Xc^2)

Z = sqrt (40^2 + (1/150 x 222 x 10^-6)^2) = 50.02 Ohm

Hence, Z = 50.02 Ohm

b)phi = tan^-1(Xc/R)

phi = tan^-1 (1/(150 x 222 x 10^-6)/40) = -36.89 deg

I = V/Z = 100/50.02 = 2 A

Hence, phi = -36.89 deg and I = 2A

Current leads the voltage

c)Vr = 2 x 40 = 80 V

Vc = 100 - 80 = 20 V

Hence, Vr = 80 V and Vc = 20 V

d)Phasor diagram will Have I in X axis and V in Y and angle phi below the horizontal.
