Question

Problem 10.21 Part A Calculate the angular acceleration of the pottery wheel. A small rubber wheel is used to drive a large pottery wheel. The two wheels are mounted so that their circular edges touch. The small wheel has a Express your answer using two significant figures. radius of 3.0 cn and accelerates at the rate of 7.2 rad/. and it is in con (radius 24.0 cm) without slipping. act with the pottery wheel rad/s2 Submit My Answers Give Up Incorrect; Try Again; 8 attempts remaining Part B Calculate the time it takes the pottery wheel to reach its required speed of 70 rpm Express your answer using two significant figures. A2

Explanation / Answer

alpha = 7.2 rad/s^2

acceleration of contact point will be same.

a = alpha1 r1 = alpha2 r2

7.2 x 3 = alpha x 24

alpha = 0.9 rad/s^2 .........Ans

(B) w = 70 x 2pi rad / 60 s = 7.33 rad/s

w = w0 + alpha t

7.33 = 0 + 0.9 t

t =8.14 sec
