Question

Exercise 9.10 Part A An electric fan is turned off, and its angular velocity decreases uniformly from 540 rev/min to 160 rev/min in a time interval of length 3.75 s Find the angular acceleration in rev/s rev Submit My Answers Give Up Part B Find the number of revolutions made by the motor in the time interval of length 3.75 s Submit My Answers Give Un Part C How many more seconds are required for the fan to come to rest if the angular acceleration remains constant at the value calculated in part A? Submit My Answers Give Up Continue

Explanation / Answer

A] Angular acceleration,a

a = (160 - 540) rev/min * 1min/60s / 3.75 s

= -1.7 rev/s^2

B]  You could just use the average velocity

s = wt + 1/2at^2

= 540 rev/min * 1 min/60 s *3.75 - 1/2*1.7 rev/s^2 * (3.75 s)^2

= 21.875 revs

C] t = delta w/a

= -160 rev/min *1 min/60 s/- 1.7 rev/s^2

= 1.57 s
