A curler accelerates a stone to a speed of 3.0 m/s over a tme 2.2s How much force does the curler exert on the stone? Express your answer using two significant figures My Answers Give Up Part B What average power does the curler use to bring the stone up to speed? Express your answer using two significant figures. P. Mly Answers Give Up 10 10 10 16

Explanation / Answer

A] Let the force that curler exert on the stone be F

F = ma

First we have to find acceleration a

Vfinal = Vinitial + a*t

a = Vfinal/t = 3/2.2 = 1.36 m/s^2

Now,

F = ma

= 20 kg * 1.36 m/s^2

= 27.2 N

B] Average power is the value of the total work done divided by the time it took to do the work.

Work = Force * Distance

So we need distance. We can use the displacement equation.

x = Vinitial*t + (1/2) at^2

= 0 + 0.5*1.36*2.2^2

= 3.29 m

Work = F*d

= 27.2 N * 3.29 m

= 89.5 J

Average Power,P = W / t

= 89.5 J/ 2.2 s

= 40.68 W
