Explanation / Answer

  Since the lght is in equilibrium, write equations from Newton's 2nd law for the horizontal (in x) and the vertical (in y) forces acting on the light. Horizontally :

F(x) = 0 = -Tcos37.0° + Tcos53.0°----->eqn (1)

Vertically :

F(y) = 0 = Tsin37.0° + Tsin53.0° - (25.0kg)(9.80m/s²)---->eqn (2)

Solving (1) for T :

T = T(cos37.0° / cos53.0°)
= 1.33T

Substitute this into eqn (2) :

Tsin37.0° + 1.33Tsin53.0° - 245N = 0
1.66T = 245N
T(BA) = 147.59N

Now, T can be found from eqn (1) :

-147.59Ncos37.0° + Tcos53.0° = 0
T = 147.59Ncos37.0° / cos53.0°
(BC)= 195.85N
