Question
In each of the following seven situations, two magnitude of the force that object A exerts on object B during the collision, and compare it to the magnitude of the force that object B exert 2. objects labeled A and B collide. Consider the s on object A during the collision. Identify whether u expect the two forces to be the same or, if not, which one should be greater. You MUST explain the reasoning behind your prediction as part of your answer. If you can apply the same reasoning to more than one of these situations, you do not need to repeat it but indicate to which of the previous situations you are referring. need to clearly a) A and B are identical objects, and B is at rest before the collision. b) A and B are identical objects moving toward each other at the same speed c) A is much more massive than B, and B is at rest before the collision. d) A is much more massive than B, and A is at rest before the collision. e) A is much more massive than B, and they are moving toward each other. ) A is much more massive than B, and they are moving in the same direction; B overtakes A. ) A is much more massive than B, and they are moving in the same direction; A overtakes B.Explanation / Answer
a). A and B identical objects so if B is at rest then due to conservation of Kinetic energy force exerted by A will be much greater than the other way round.
b).Force exerted on each other is same and after the collision they can scatter in any direction at the same rate.
c).It is same as reasoning a only difference is the magnitude of force in this case will be higher. The force is directly proportional to the mass of the object.
d). Even if A is massive from the conservation of energy, the energy exchnage is proportional to square of velocity. So the magnitude FB will be comparable or may be higher depending on the exact mass of A than the reaction force by FA.
e).A is much more massive and they are moving towards each other so FA >FB. Givwn the velocity is same.
f).So if B overtakes A then I will say FB >FA . GIven the fact the moemntum of A is less than B as B is speeding in much higher rate.
g) FB <FA
