Question

[ ] 1-The diameter of an atomic nucleus is about a hundredth of a trillionth of a meter. In powers of 10, this is A. 10°m B. 1012m C. 10m (Note that a trillion is 10) D. 101m E. 10"m 12. You drive from New York City to Washington DC by car. For the first hour, you maintain an average speed of 50 km/hr. You cover the next 250 km in 3.0 hr, and then drive the remaining 30 km into Washington in 30 min. What was your average speed for the whole journey? A. 73.3 km/hr B. 70.0 km/hrC. 65.0 km/hr D. 80 km/hr 13. The figure presented below shows the multi-flash photo (at equal time intervals) of the location of an object traveling along a straight line. At which point (A or B or C or D) is the magnitude of the acceleration largest? 14. You are walking around a circular track at the local school field. It has a radius of 50 m. After you have covered three quarters of a lap, starting from the extreme westem end and in an anticlockwise direction, what is your displacement at that time? A. 50 m north B. 50 m north of cast C. 72 m south of cast D. 72 m north of cast 15. A person walks 20.0 m toward the cast (represented by the vector X), then 20.0 nm toward the north (represented by the vector Y) before walking 20.0 m toward the southwest (represented by the vector Z). Where is the person at the end of his walk? A. at the starting point B. 8.3 m away C.40 m away D. 28.3 m away 6. You drop an apple from your hand from your third-story dorm window. If the top of your friend's window is 5 m below the launch site and its length/height is 2.0 m, how long will your friend be able to see the apple as it flies by? (g=10m A. 0.1 s B. 0.2s C.0.5s D. 1.0s E. 1.2s

Explanation / Answer

1. One trillionth of a meter is picometer which is equal to 10-12.

Therefore, One hundredth of a trillionth will be 10-14m.

2. The average speed is calculated as

Average speed = Total distance travelled / Total time taken

= 50 + 250 + 30 / 1 + 3 + 0.5 = 73.3 km/hr

3. Point B is having maximum acceleration as it had maximum distance covered in equal time as that of other points.

4. Displacement = Final position - Initial position

Initial position was 50 m west. After doing three quarters, final position is 50 meters north. Take the magnitude of line joining these two positions.

5. Same as 4. sqrt(202 + 202) - 20 = 8.3m
