Resources e previous 4 of 8 nxt Hwob Problem 741 Problem 7.41 The 1.5 physics book in figure is connected by a string to a 450 coffee cup. The book is given a push up the slope and released with a speed of 2.7 The coefficients of friction are, 050 and 0.20 Part A How far does the book slide'? Express your answer with the appropriate units Value Units Submit My Answers Give Up Part B At the highest point, does the book stick to the slope, or does it slide back down? stick to the slope slide back downhil Submit My Answers Give Up Correct

Explanation / Answer

here,

mass of physics book , m1 = 1.5 kg

mass of cofee cup , m2 = 0.45 kg

initial speed , u = 2.7 m/s

us = 0.5 , uk = 0.2

a)

the accelration , a = (m1 * g * sin(theta) + uk * m1 * g * cos(theta) + m2 * g )/(m1 + m2)

a = (1.5 * 9.81 * sin(20) + 0.2*1.5 * 9.81 * cos(20) + 0.45 * 9.81 ) /( 1.5 + 0.45) m/s^2

a = 6.26 m/s^2

the distance travelled , s = u^2 /2a

s = 2.7^2 /( 2 * 6.26)= 0.58 m

b)

at heighest point

gravitational force , Fg = m1 * g * sin(theta) + m2 * g = 9.44 N

static frictional force , ffs = us * m1 * g * cos(20) = 6.91 N

as Fg > ffs

it will slide down the hill
