Question

QUESTION 1 (Se+ up At a construction site, a 22kg bucket of concrete is connected over a very light frictionless pulley to a 375N box on the roof of a building. Assuming the roof is frictionless what is the magnitude of the acceleration of the bucket? 1. 375 N 22.0 kg Building QUESTION 2 (se+ up) At a construction site, a 46kg bucket of concrete is connected over a very light frictionless pulley to a 48N box on the roof of a building. Unlike the previous question though the coeffeceint of kinetic friction between the roof and the building is 0.27. Assuming the system is already moving to the right, what is the magnitude of the acceleration of the bucket? 1.

Explanation / Answer

1. on 22 kg bucket

applying Fnet = m a In vertical,

22g - T = 22 a .... (i)

on 375 N block:

in horizontal, Fnet = T = m a = (375/9.8)a

T = 38.3a

putting in (i)

22g - 38.3a = 22 a

a = (22 x 9.8) / (22 + 38.3) = 3.58 m/s^2
