If blood moves at 1.0 m/s in the aorta, what is its speed in a capillary? 1 . 2. What is the velocity of water flowing from the tube shown? The piston is massless but has a 500kg mass placed on top. The diameter of the piston is 50cm. kg 3.0 m waterExplanation / Answer
1)
let the speed of the capillary is v1
v2 = 1 m/s
r1 = 10/2 = 5 um
r2 = 0.50/2 = 0.25 cm
Using Equation of continuity
v1 * pi * r1^2 = v2 * pi * r2^2
v1 * pi * (5 *10^-6)^2 = 1* pi * (0.25 *10^-2)^2
solving for v1
v1 = 2.5 *10^5 m/s
the speed of the blood is capillary is 2.5 *10^5 m/s
