m1gh/2 - m2gh/2 = 0.5*(m1+m2) v^2

5.30*9.8*2 - 2.55*9.8*2 = 0.5*(5.30+2.55)*v^2

53.9 = 0.5*7.85 v^2

v = sqrt(53.9*2/7.85) = 3.706 m/s

b] The acceleration is same, distance h is double of previous case, so by third equation of motion, v = sqrt(2as)

v becomes sqrt 2 times,

v = 3.706*sqrt 2 = 5.241 m/s

c] Now string becomes loose and acceleration becomes g, by third equation of motion,

s = v^2/2g = 5.241^2/[2*9.8]

= 1.40 m
