Question

thank you.

What is the function of triglycerides? What is the function of cholesterol? What reagent is used to measure extracted cholesterol? In this lab no open flame is allowed. Why? After mixing initial supernatant with Na_2SO_ centrifugation resolved the solution into two layers. Which one contains lipids? What wave length is used to measure extracted cholesterol? What do you have to construct to determine cholesterol content of the sample. If TLC is done in 100% water, do you expect to resolve the extracted lipids? What do you need to run on your TLC plate to identify extracted lipids?

Explanation / Answer

1.Triacylglycerols or fats or triglycerides are made up of three fatty acid chains that are esterified to a glycerol backbone. Triacylglycerols forms an abundant source dietary lipid in human beings and also act as a major energy store. The energy yield upon complete oxidation of triglycerides is around 39 kJ g–1 which is greater than the energy yield obtained from proteins and carbohydrates.
