Explanation / Answer

a)

using impulse -change in momentum equation

m vi = F t

vi = (F t)/m

b)

vi = (F t)/m = 23 x 0.15/0.92 = 3.75 m/s

c)

consider the motion in Y-direction

Viy = initial velocity in Y-direction = vi Sin45 = 3.75 Sin45 = 2.65 m/s

Vfy = final velocity at the highest point = 0 m/s

a = acceleration = - 9.8

h = height gained

using the equation

Vfy2 = Viy2 + 2 a h

02 = (2.65)2 + 2 (-9.8) h

h = 0.36 m
