Question

Part A A circular loop in the plane of the paper lies in a 0.60 T magnetic field pointing into the paper. If the loop's diameter changes from 21.8 cm to 8.2 cm in 0.38 s, what is the direction of the induced current? O clockwise counterclockwise Submit My Answers Give Up Part B What is the magnitude of the average induced emf? Express your answer using two significant figures Submit My Answers Give Up Part C If the coil resistance is 3.0 , what is the average induced current? Express your answer using two significant figures

Explanation / Answer

Given,

B = 0.6 T

A)The direction would be counterclockwise

B)We know from Faraday's law

e = -d(phi)/dt = - d(BA)/dt

e = - B (A2 - A1)/t

A2 = pi r2^2 = 3.14 x (0.082/2)^2 = 0.0053 m^2

A1 = pi r1^2 = 3.14 x (0.218/2)^2 = 0.0373 m^2

e = - 0.6 (0.0053 - 0.0373)/0.38 = 0.051 V

Hence, e = 0.051 V

C)We know from Ohm's law

V = IR => I = V/R = e/R

I = 0.051/3 = 0.017 A

Hence, I = 0.017 A
