Explanation / Answer
1.Early breeding resuls in:- a.production of an extra calf b. High producing mothers can be identified earlier which allows for a shorter generation interval and hence, quicker genetic progress.
2.In backgrounding-It is also called as stockering. In the backrounding, the main aim is growth of bones and muscle tissue, development of the immune system function> it utilizes mainly pasture where the cattle grazes grass and other forages.
When cattles enter the feedlot they are aboput 700-800 pounds and are nearly a year of age or older. They are given vaccination, ear tagged and are mainlu fed upon high forage diet (grasses and legumes). Their diets slowly transition to 75-80% concentrates (grains, grain by product, high energy and low fibre feeds).
3. Purpose of de-horning
i-reduce the risk of injuring the herd mates
ii-prevention of financial losses from trimmimg damaged carcasses caused by horned feedlot cattles during transport to slaughter
iii-requires less space at the feed bunk and in-transit
iv-decfeased risk of injury to farm workers, dogs and horses.
