Question
The force acting on a particle varies as in the figure below. (The x axis is marked in increments of 1.50 m.)
Find the work done by the force as the particle moves across the following distances.
(a) from x = 0 m to x = 12.0 m
________J
(b) from x = 12.0 m to x = 18.0 m
________J
(c) from x = 0 m to x = 18.0 m
________J
I know that the answers are 36, -9, 25. but what i want to know how to work out the problem, how the answers came to be that way or basically i wanna know how to do this problem step by step... someone please show me.

Work done = Area under the curve ( if curve above x axis then positive , if below x axis then negative )
1) From x = 0 to x = 12
Work done = area of trinagle ABC
= 0.5*base*height
= 0.5*12*6 = 36 J
2) From x = 12 to x = 18
Work done = Area of triangle CDE
= -0.5*base*height
= - 0.5*6*3 = -9 J
2) Work done form x = 0 to x = 18
= area of trinagle ABC + area of trinagle CDE
= 36 - 9 = 25 J
